Child-Friendly Villa · Cape Town

A child-friendly villa in Cape Town, built around the kids

A heated pool to swim all year, outdoor monkey bars and a dedicated play deck, with plenty of shade for the little ones. Best of all, the kitchen, dining and adult lounge all open straight onto the pool and play area — so you can keep an eye on the kids splashing about while you cook, dine or unwind in the hanging swing chair. That open, watch-them-from-anywhere layout is a genuinely rare thing in Cape Town — here in a safe, gated and wind-free setting. The kind of child-friendly villa where the kids are happy and parents can finally switch off.

Home office and study / guest room at Lumara, optimised for remote work in Cape Town
Work-Friendly

Remote-work ready, in the heart of Fresnaye

High-speed internet runs throughout the house, set up for working remotely without a second thought. One of the six bedrooms is a calm, self-contained studio in its own separate building beside the pool — with its own bathroom — so it doubles perfectly as a private guest suite or a quiet home office — and, being a separate building of its own, it's also the perfect private space for a travelling nanny or au pair, a world away from the main house.

Our Story

Built by travelling parents, for travelling families.

We're a family of lifelong globetrotters. For years we've explored the world with our children in tow — and we know first-hand how hard it is to find a place that's genuinely beautiful and actually works for kids. We also wanted somewhere close to the city and properly walkable, where you're not forever in and out of the car. So when we fell for Cape Town, we set out to build the home we always wished we could book: a design villa shaped around family life, in a neighbourhood where the promenade, beaches, restaurants and walks are all on foot or minutes away — where children are free to roam, splash and play, and parents can finally switch off. Lumara is that home, and we can't wait to share it with yours.

The Setting

Fresnaye, on the slopes of Lion's Head

Tucked between Sea Point and Bantry Bay, Fresnaye is Cape Town's quiet, wind-free enclave — one of the Atlantic Seaboard's most prestigious and sought-after addresses, neighbouring Bantry Bay and Clifton. The villa looks out over the Cape Town City Bowl and up to Signal Hill — and you're just a short walk from Signal Hill itself, home to arguably the best sundowners in the world. It's also one of Cape Town's best-connected lifestyle pockets — tennis, Pilates, gyms, spas and the city's finest restaurants all just minutes from the door, plus some of the best ice cream in town to treat the kids. And on the nights you'd rather stay in, Cape Town's best kitchens come to you — Uber Eats and the like deliver some of the city's finest food straight to the door in minutes.

Good to Know

Frequently asked questions

Is Lumara a child-friendly villa?

Absolutely — it's the whole reason we built it. Lumara has a heated pool, outdoor monkey bars, a dedicated play deck and shaded outdoor space, and the kitchen, dining and lounge open straight onto the pool and play area, so you can keep an eye on the children from almost anywhere. It sits in a safe, gated and wind-free part of Fresnaye. In the interest of full honesty, the one thing to flag is the stone steps down to the pool — worth keeping an eye on with the very littlest ones.

How many guests does the villa sleep?

Six bedrooms and five bathrooms, sleeping up to twelve guests comfortably.

Is the swimming pool heated?

Yes. The Atlantic stays cold year-round, so the private pool is heated for swimming in any season.

Is Fresnaye a safe neighbourhood?

Fresnaye is one of Cape Town's quietest, most secure and most sought-after suburbs — sitting right alongside Bantry Bay and Clifton, among the most prestigious and exclusive addresses in South Africa. The villa has a modern security system, and discreet private overnight security can be arranged on request.

How far are the beaches and the city?

Clifton's beaches are about five minutes by car, with Camps Bay and the V&A Waterfront around ten. The Sea Point promenade, tennis courts, Pilates studios, gyms and many of the city's best restaurants are all on foot or just minutes away.

Is it really wind-free?

Yes — Fresnaye is famously sheltered from Cape Town's south-easter, which makes long days outside genuinely enjoyable. It's a rarity on the Atlantic Seaboard.

What about load-shedding and power cuts?

You'll barely notice it. Lumara runs on its own solar power with a large battery backup, so the villa stays bright, connected and comfortable straight through South Africa's load-shedding — lights, Wi-Fi, kitchen and pool all keep running. It also means your stay is greener and very nearly self-sufficient.

Is Lumara good for a longer winter stay?

Wonderfully so. Cape Town winters (roughly June–August) are mild and green, and Fresnaye is one of the city's most sheltered, wind-free pockets — so days outside stay pleasant. Lumara is made for the long stay: a heated pool you can swim year-round, an indoor fireplace and sauna for cosy evenings, a separate studio with high-speed internet for working remotely, and housekeeping five days a week. Many guests settle in for two to three weeks or more — just ask us about reduced weekly and long-stay rates. (It's equally perfect as a winter-sun escape over the European winter, December to February — Cape Town's glorious summer.)

What's included in a stay?

Housekeeping and service five days a week, air-conditioning in every bedroom, a private sauna, and a large garage that fits three cars. Book directly with us and you'll also arrive to a fridge stocked with drinks, on us.

What's included in the price?

Just about everything — housekeeping and service five days a week, every one of the villa's amenities, and your electricity. Because Lumara runs on its own solar power, electricity (normally the single biggest running cost of a Cape Town villa) is on the house. Only optional extras like spa treatments, a private chef or private dining are charged separately, and always agreed with you up front. Our team also genuinely appreciate tips — we suggest at least 10 USD per day.

Is there a minimum stay?

Yes — a minimum stay of three nights applies.

When can we stay, and how do we book?

Lumara welcomes its first guests from 1 November 2026. Send us an enquiry with your dates and the number of guests, and we'll come straight back to you.
